What is happening with earnings so far?
What has been heard and now read is more companies are reporting earnings (eps) estimates better than expectations, but less than the prior earnings quarter.
There is a quality article from John Butters, who is Vice President and Senior Earnings Analyst at FactSet.
Some of the info gathered is… 33% of the companies in the S&P 500 have reported; 77% of those have reported actual EPS above estimates which is above the five-year average of 76%.
Regarding revenue: 75% of S&P 500 companies have reported actual revenues above estimates, which is above the five-year average of 68%.
