I am an options trader through and through.  I have investments for the long term, sure, but a major catalyst to my livelihood is trading options.

I am also an educator.  With my company Toms Trading Room, LLC I am blessed to be able to combine my passion for both trading options and educating people on how to trade options.  One of the most popular programs people have pursued with me is what I call Mastery Programs.

Mastery Programs

These are up to 6-week online educational presentations where once a week my students get a minimum 90-minute (often times much longer) education on a style of options trading, whether it be seasonal based, momentum base, volatility based, etc.

The one many people gravitate to more often than others is my System Mastery Course.

I teach multiple options trading strategies and the means to execute my options trading process which is

1) Spot an Opportunity

2) Build an Acceptable Risk Option Trade and

3) Manage that Option Trade

The intent with my options trading process no matter which style of options trading and analysis is to secure profits and build wealth.

I would run these course once a year and last year was no exception.  Many people ask if these course sessions were recorded and to those paid to enroll go the recordings after each live session.

Based on the demand for people wanting to pay for the recordings and not wanting to wait a year or more to see if I am going to run any more of these live Mastery Courses I decided I would open up the late 2023 recordings of these Mastery Courses. It is what I call my MSOD = Mastery Series On-Demand. If you have been wanting to take a Mastery Course or you want to have the series of recordings for a Mastery or all of them, join today for instant access!

One of the styles of options trading I teach in my System Mastery Course is Seasonal Based.  My scanning tool that I have a pending utility patent on is called Money Calendar.

I use my seasonal pattern scanner on stocks and ETF’s in either a bullish or bearish fashion.  I look for these patterns on stocks an ETF’s. When I get a bead on where there is an anticipated money flow, be it a stock or a sector of stocks, I then turn my Money Calendar searcher on those.

Favorable Sector During ‘Sell in May’ Period

In my recent Sell in May report I wrote that research from Fidelity identified defensive stocks performed well during the ‘winter months’ the period of May to October.

That info is valuable to me because I can now go to my Money Calendar tool, which I not only teach what Money Calendar does, but how to use it in my System Mastry Course, and I research if there are any seasonal patterns in those stocks.

As fate would have it, at the time of this writing I see a Money Calendar pattern on Northrop Grumman Corporation, (NYSE: NOC) starting May 10.

It is a 19-day pattern and it’s average price move is:

Image 2

Also notice it has trade higher 10 out of the past 10 years over this range of days.

This pattern is only 19-days, and the winter months go from May to October 31.  Fine by me, I will continue to look for upcoming patterns for NOC and other defensive stocks during this period.

Using Toms Tools to Find an Option Trade

Money Calendar takes care of Step 1 in my 3-step options trading process: Spot the Opportunity.

Step 2 is to build an acceptable risk trade.  What I feel is the best option to consider is the one with the lowest percent to double.

This means or measures how much the security needs to move on a percentage basis for the option to double in value.

I use a san in my tools, ( called Double Finder.

Here is what my scanning software found:

Image 3

June 7 $475 Call option can theoretically double with a 3.2% move to $490.30 at the expiration date of this option.

As for Step 3> Manage the trade my goal is to anticipate a double.  A basic stop management approach is to consider a stop of 50% loss.

Recap Options Trading Process

I showed you in a simple manner my 3-step approach to options trading:

  1. Spot an Opportunity
  2. Build an Acceptable Risk Option Trade and
  3. Manage that Option Trade

I used Money Calendar for step 1, but there are 4 other styles of options trading I use such as Momentum, Statistical, Volatility, Contrarian.

My System Mastery course will have you capable of being to ‘do as I do’.

Stock and options trading has large potential rewards, but also large potential risk.

You must be aware of the risks and be willing to accept them in order to invest in the stock and options market. Do not trade with money you cannot afford to lose.

This is neither an offer to buy/sell/ or recommend a particular stock or option.

Hypothetical or simulated performance results have certain inherent limitations. Unlike an actual performance record, simulated results do not represent actual trading. Also, since the trades have not been actually executed, the results may have under or overcompensated for the impact, if any, of certain market factors, such as lack of liquidity. Simulated trading programs in general are also subject to the fact that they are designed with hindsight.
