Crypto Over Stock?

When one hears the term crypto or cryptocurrency the first thing that comes to mind is Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is a decentralized ‘digital’ currency. You can buy, sell, or exchange it without any bank acting as a facilitator or intermediary. Every Bitcoin transaction that’s been made exists on a ledger and is accessible to everyone. This makes transactions with Bitcoin hard to revers or even fake.

Bitcoin is decentralized, meaning they aren’t backed by the government or any issuing institution so there isn’t anything in place to guarantee their value. The reason Bitcoin is worth money is because people decide it / they have value.

Speaking of Bitcoin Value

Bitcoin is knocking on the door of new all-time highs… again. If history repeats itself, we could be on the precipice of another bullish surge for it.

Huge developments have occurred in the crypto space in 2024/2025. Items such as executive orders coming about supporting crypto innovation and establishing the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.

The SEC has changed its view on Bitcoin as evident by them approving the first spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETF’s), which allowed it to be listed on national securities exchange.

I even see now institutions; even publicly traded companies are buying into them.

Does that mean I am going all in on Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies over stocks? Am I an advocate of liquidating my stock positions and funneling all that capital to crypto? Not at all.

Auntie, Why Not Both?

Awhile back my wife and I went up to our summer home in upstate New York.

My young nephew who lives next door shows up while we are there and goes straight to the refrigerator and pulls out the last two ice cream cones or ice cream bars.

My wife looks at it him and asks him, “Why are you taking both? Why don’t you leave one for later or for someone else?” He looks at her and very simply asks, ‘but Auntie, why not both?’

I chuckle even now, but I do that with my investments like my nephew. When I am looking at a couple of different investment ideas, I too will ask myself, why not do both? Staying diversified works for me.

Same thing on the issue of Crypto Over Stock?

Let’s key on a few differences, comes would call them advantages one has compared to the other: Crypto or Stock

CryptoStock
Decentralized – No IntermediariesGoverned by regulatory bodies (SEC in the U.S.).
Investors have full control over their assets without intermediaries.Supported by major financial institutions and integrated into retirement accounts, pensions, and ETFs.
Unlike stock exchanges, crypto markets never close. Trade anytime including weekends and holidays.Stocks come with deep financial data: earnings reports, analyst reviews, and historical performance trends.
Cryptos like Bitcoin and Ethereum have shown explosive growth in short periods.Over decades, broad stock indices like the S&P 500 have shown consistent growth, making stocks a more proven investment vehicle.
